MacBook update could mean this is now a bad time to buy an Apple laptop
APPLE has a big event scheduled for Tuesday and rumours suggest a new MacBook Air could be launching soon.
APPLE
Now could be a very bad time to buy a MacBook.
Apple has a big event planned for Tuesday with the US technology firm expected to reveal an update to some of its devices.
The main event appears to be the possible launch of new budget iPad, which may have compatibility with Apple's Pencil stylus, but there's plenty of speculation that the popular MacBook Air could get a refresh.
This super-slim laptop hasn't been upgraded for a number of years but it still remains one of Apple's most iconic and best-selling computers.
It's currently unclear what new features and upgrades could be coming to this machine but KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a very goo track record for Apple rumours, said there are plans to launch a more affordable MacBook Air in the second quarter of 2018.
This could mean fans may see the MacBook Air land in stores for around $900 (£700).
This rumour has also been backed up by renowned Apple expert Mark Gurman.
In a recent post on Bloomberg Gurnman said: "A new, cheaper MacBook laptop is in the works and likely destined to replace the MacBook Air at a price less than $1,000."
However, Gurman is not convinced that Apple will launch this new laptop at Tuesday's event, adding: "It probably won’t be ready in time for next week."
It's thought Apple is releasing these new, cheaper, devices in a bid to win back students who may have been tempted by lower cost options from Google and Microsoft.
Apple's MacBooks and iPads are hugely popular but also very expensive and offering a more budget option is sure to entice people back to the famous brand.
We'll find out more on Tuesday with Apple's event starting at 10am local time - 3pm GMT.
