Sri Sai Teja Slum Samakhya of Siddipet has Swachhata Excellence Award – 2018 in recognition of exemplary work in the field sanitation and cleanliness during the year 2017-18. The award was presented under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Urban Livelihoods Mission by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Friday at New Delhi. The Samakhya was also presented with a cash award of ₹1.5 lakh.
According to a release here, Sri Sai Teja Slum Samkhya played a key role in helping Siddipet become open defecation free (ODF). A total of 196 nominations were received from across the nation by the Union Ministry for this award and the samkhya from the district headquarters stood top among them.
The award was received by Slum Samakhya president Navya, secretary Vijaya and Municipal Commissioner and MEPMA Project Director Srinivas Reddy from Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
