In a chilling incident, a four-year-old girl was allegedly molested and killed by a 30-year-old man at Kotturu village in Vijayapuri South mandal under Nagarjuna Sagar police station limits.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when the girl who had gone to a local Anganwadi school, was reportedly lured by Balu Naik and taken to an isolated place, where he allegedly raped her.
The girl who had bled profusely later died and the accused left the girl’s body in bushes.
The girl’s parents started searching for her, and the accused had also accompanied them. Locals then tipped off the parents about the movements of Balu Naik, who was seen taking away the girl. The girl’s body was found amid bushes in the area.
Chairperson of AP Mahila Commission Nannapaneni Rajakumari rushed to the village and consoled the parents. Demanding stringent action against the accused, Ms. Rajakumari demanded that the accused be given the severest punishment.
She assured the parents that she would persuade Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to give ₹5 lakh as compensation to the bereaved family. “This incident has shaken the collective conscience of the people and I demand the severest punishment to the accused. The punishment should be a deterrent to paedophiles,” Ms. Rajakumari told The Hindu on Friday.
Circle Inspector of Macherla Dileep Kumar and SI of Vijayapuri South Vasu reached the spot and began the investigation.
POCSO Act
The accused is a native of Chennepet mandal in Nalgonda district.
The Macherla police have booked cases under various sections including Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
