I urge U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley to demand Attorney General Jeff Sessions appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee for a grilling as to why he fired Andrew McCabe.
Right now, every rational person, regardless of party affiliation, believes Sessions capitulated to pressure from President Donald Trump to dump McCabe in the most mean-spirited and vindictive manner possible, and completely circumvented the standard protocol for dismissing a top ranking official of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
I am not defending McCabe; I am gravely concerned about the transparent efforts by the Trump administration at politicization of the Justice Department and the FBI through continual disparagement, intimidation and fear mongering. These actions and their intended consequences are a clear and present danger to our democracy. They require a prompt and thorough investigation by the Judiciary Committee. which Grassley leads.
If it be found that Sessions broke under pressure applied by Trump, then Sessions must go. Our legal system cannot tolerate an attorney general unable to stand his ground against a bully.
