Mining rally: 15 protestors file anticipatory bail applications

Close on the heels of three people seeking anticipatory bail, 15 others have filed anticipatory bail applications in connection with the case pertaining to the agitation by mining affected people on Monday which had turned violent.

According to the police, they have issued summons to 22 persons after they were identified based on the video footages of the incident. The video footages were shared with other police stations based on which Bicholim police has identified 16 persons while Valpoi police has identified six persons. Police said that so far the number of persons identified in connection with the case has reached 70.

Apart from this, Panaji police has sent wireless messages to Old Goa, Fatorda, Ponda, Curchorem, Saligao, Verna and Valpoi police stations to detain 16 persons, who skipped summons issued to them for questioning.

The protest had paralysed vehicular traffic for several hours along the National Highway in which hundreds of commuters including school children were stranded. According to the police, the road blockade was an act of harassment to minor students. As such, a section under the Goa Children’s Act has been added to the case.
