A 34-year-old alleged member of Chhainu Pehelwan gang who had a bounty of ₹1 lakh on his head was nabbed in the small hours of Friday, the police said.
Accused Asif, who is Irfan alias Chhainu’s cousin, is wanted in several cases of abduction, kidnapping and extortion, the police added.
The police had received a tip-off regarding his arrival near Tahirpur, said DCP (Special Cell) P.S. Kushwah. Asif, a resident of Jafrabad, was arrested after brief exchange of fire.
The police said that his is “trigger happy and fires on slightest provocation or on refusal to pay extortion money to his gang members”.
At gunpoint
The accused allegedly extorted ₹30lakh from a businessman at gunpoint in Brahmpuri in 2014. He had allegedly attempted the same in 2015 but the victim approached the police.
The police said Asif is also wanted in connection with a case under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) registered at Seelampur police station against members of Chhainu gang.
In October 2017, the gang had allegedly killed two members of rival Nasir gang in a span of four hours and pumped over 40 bullets in them.
All other accused in the case have been arrested, the police added.
