Baseball roundup: Rider downs WFHS; Burk gets by Graham

Rider pulls away from WFHS

The Wichita Falls High School Coyotes had a better showing in their second matchup with Rider this week, but couldn't keep pace in a 12-3 loss in District 5-5A play at Hoskins Field.

Rider scored three runs in the first inning, but Old High tied in the top of third when Zane Leonard drove home three runs with a double.

Rider retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back.

Maverick Folmar came on in relief in the third inning, earning the win while also going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Rayce Radtke was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs, while Ranse Radtke went 2 for 4 with two runs and a RBI.

Nick Gonzalez finished 2 for 3 for Old High, while Leonard went 1 for 3, driving in all of Old High's runs.

Burk gets past Graham

GRAHAM – The Burkburnett Bulldogs picked up a key District 6-4A win, topping Graham, 10-5, Friday.

The two teams traded the lead for five innings, but a five-run sixth, keyed by a couple Graham errors, allowed the Bulldogs to pull away.

Wyatt Grant led Burk going, 2 for 4 with a double, run and two RBIs, while also pitching the final two innings for a save. Owen Loesch led Graham with a 4 for 4 performance, scoring a run and driving in another.

Hawks rout Hirschi

The Iowa Park Hawks got off to a roaring start in District 6-4A play, rolling past Hirschi, 16-0.

The Hawks led 4-0 after the first innings, but put the game away in the second with a  10-run rally. The game was called after five innings via the mercy rule.

Noah Diaz led the Hawks, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs. Braxton Briones was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, three runs and two RBIs. Chris Dickens was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs and Derek Hostas was 2 for 3 with two runs and a RBI.

Chris Dickens got the win, pitching two perfect innings, striking out all six batters he faced. James Everett had the Huskies’ lone hit.
