Kuvempu University presented a deficit budget of ₹3.01 crore for 2018-19. The budget puts the projected revenue at ₹150.75 crore from various sources while the projected expenditure is estimated to be ₹153.76 crore.
Finance officer Hiremani Naik, who presented the budget at a special meeting of the academic council on Jnana Sahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta on Thursday, said the university has earmarked ₹44.35 crore for academic expenditure, ₹35.46 crore for administrative expenditure, ₹14 crore for expenditure related to examinations, ₹15 crore for running distance education courses, ₹22.95 crore for development works, and ₹5.46 crore has been reserved for student support services. He said the university is planning to establish an incubation centre to promote research in basic and applied sciences.
Registrar H.S. Bhojya Naik said a bachelor’s degree course in industrial safety management will be offered from 2018-19 in colleges affiliated to the university. The university is also planning to introduce PG diploma courses in new media and Kannada literature, Kuvempu and rationalism, and ‘Basava Tatwa’ from the coming academic year, he said.
Mr. Naik said based on the recent grading awarded to Sahyadri College in Shivamogga city by NAAC, the university has decided to withdraw autonomy granted to the college. Sahyadri College will function as a constituent college of the university, he said.
Vice-Chancellor Jogan Shankar said a vigilance committee will be formed to ensure quality in degree courses. It will form guidelines on the infrastructure, teaching standards to be maintained at the affiliated colleges offering degree courses, he added.
