Bad, bad Mark Zuckerberg. The Facebook founder and chief has been under fire all week by terribly angry people on all sides for the lax-seeming, data-breach-inducing attitude of his company towards its users’ personal details. He’s been blasted by frenzied hashtags from #WheresZuck, which preceded his statement on Wednesday, to #deletefacebook, a gathering social media storm begun by Whatasapp co-founder Brian Acton. (Whatsapp, a messaging service, was bought by Facebook for $16bn in 2014; talk about gratitude!) Zuckerberg has been summoned by governments; investors and advertisers such as Mozilla and Commerzbank have been pulling away, and Facebook shares have plummeted.
