Fiber grid project progressing well: CEO

An action plan to bring doctors to the doorsteps of the general public would be chalked out in a week’s time, involving health department and AP Chapter of Telemedicine Society of India, said Real-Time Governance Chief Executive Officer Babu A. here on Saturday.

He said the two lakh and odd households which were connected with the fiber grid technology, would soon be able to utilise health care in an effective manner. “These homes will be connected with hospitals, doctors and other healthcare components. Just by calling the doctor, the patients can interact and get the medical care especially during emergencies,” he said.

Mr Babu said the RTG had tied up Bharat Net Project, the new brand name of National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN), and that an amount of ₹860 crores has been granted to connect 12,916 panchayats in the State.

He said RTG had tied up with Google Station to create 25,000 hotspots in the State.

Mr Babu added that the fiber grid project was progressing in an encouraging manner and that the target of connecting 14 million houses would be achieved in a phased manner.

He remarked the connectivity would give a new meaning to the health care as Telemedicine Society of India and healthcare department would play a crucial role in linking the doctors with the patients.

Security system

Mr. Babu, while emphasizing the new role of the doctors, said the success of the new initiative depended on the availability of the doctors,

“The hospital should properly schedule the availability of the doctors to help interact with the patients online.”

He also stressed on the need for creating a foolproof security system to maintain secrecy of patients’ medical data.
