PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The state is changing the traffic pattern on a stretch of Interstate 95 to repair a structurally-deficient bridge.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation says it’s closing Blackstone Street between Allens Avenue and Eddy Street in Providence on Monday. The road will remain closed until late fall.

The closure is needed to rehabilitate the Blackstone Street Bridge, which carries I-95 over Blackstone Street near Rhode Island Hospital.

The department says traffic pattern changes are necessary for I-95 in both directions.

Traffic will shift to the right for work on the bridge’s high-speed lanes.

The change takes effect on the southbound side between exits 18 and 19 on Wednesday, and on the northbound side, between exits 18 and 20, on Thursday.

This temporary traffic pattern will last up to four months.
