The interactive museum in Dublin’s Docklands will display a selection of striking images, chosen from over 300 international attractions and sites that are illuminated in green to celebrate the island of Ireland and St Patrick’s Day. Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening has been running since 2010 and grows bigger every year.

The spectacular landmarks on show in EPIC include the Great Wall of China, Niagara Falls, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and the London Eye.

Neville Isdell, Founder and Chairman of EPIC, said: “The Global Greening initiative fits perfectly within the story of the Irish diaspora that EPIC tells. It reflects the impact and the truly global footprint that the Irish have across the world. Seeing the sheer breadth of locations lit in dazzling green every St Patrick’s Day creates a hugely positive impression of the island of Ireland, and strengthens our global tourism brand. While we capture many strands of Irish history at EPIC, celebrating and taking pride in Irish people and culture is at the heart of what we do. The advantage of a digital museum is that we can continue to add new elements like this to tell the Irish emigration story, and we’re delighted to showcase this superb Tourism Ireland project.”

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “We are delighted that Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative will be showcased in EPIC’s ‘Celebration’ gallery. The success of our Global Greening is due in no small part to the great work that has been carried out across the world by Irish people and the diaspora. I would particularly like to thank the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the great support we receive from the Irish embassy network. The eagerness of cities and countries everywhere to take part underlines the strength of the deep connection that people all over the world feel to Ireland. More than 70 million people around the world claim links to the island of Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day is a truly unique opportunity to reconnect them with their heritage.”

The Global Greening display will feature in EPIC’s ‘Celebration’ gallery, which marks Irish festivities around the world, including St Patrick’s Day and the week-long Milwaukee Irish Festival, the largest celebration of Irish culture in the world.
