The five-day strike that had been called by the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has culminated into an online petition being launched by the teachers’ body.
On Saturday evening, the petition had already garnered support from over 16,000 people who had signed up.
The petition which was moved by DUTA president Rajib Ray on Friday, is against privatisation of education and aims to “uphold the right to affordable quality education”.
“The warning sign is clear for this government. Teachers, students, parents, karamcharis and alumni don’t agree with the government on autonomy and privatisation. Public opinion is in favour of full public funding for universities and colleges, permanent jobs for teachers and staff, positive service conditions and restoration of regular pension” the teachers’ body said in a statement.
In the past week, Delhi University saw teachers protesting in various colleges, over several issues including autonomy and anti-reservation roster.
The teachers’ body also said that it will be organising a march to the Parliament on March 28.
