NEW DELHI: Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad was today sentenced to seven years in prison following his conviction in the fourth fodder scam case, reported ANI.

On Monday, a CBI special court in Ranchi had pronounced Lalu guilty in the Rs 3.13 crore Dumka treasury case, the fourth of the five fodder scam cases.

Hearing in this fourth fodder scam case was wrapped up on March 5 but the judgment was repeatedly delayed as Lalu filed several pleas. In addition to Jagannath Mishra, another former chief minister of Bihar, 29 others, including former IAS officers and animal husbandry officials, were also accused in the case.

Mishra was pronounced not guilty in the same case.

Lalu has already been found guilty by a special CBI court and sentenced to prison terms in three other fodder scam cases. This fourth case is to do with fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the treasury of Dumka, which is now in Jharkhand, but was in Bihar when Lalu was chief minister.

The RJD supremo is currently lodged in the Birsa Munda prison in Ranchi where he is serving a 13.5-year jail term. On Saturday, he was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences after he fell ill while in jail.

A total of 14 accused have been convicted so far in the fodder scam case.
