Through the soiled air of alternative facts and the incessant truth-challenging tweets, his flummoxed electorate struggles to reconcile their core beliefs with his constant assaults on morality. Our existing president with a long history of bankruptcies and failed business ventures is still holding to his vision of becoming America's first dictator.
Trump has desecrated the office the presidency by keeping his financial history private and continuing to run his real estate business from the White House, even raising the rent at Mara Largo to cash in on his newly acquired stature. With his known admiration for emerging despots and his recent praise to Putin as he ascends to Russian dictator, the Don feels his future brightening even as the black cloud of lies and sexual escapades descends upon him.
Denying reality is a component of human imperfection and is often connected with unbounded greed. Putin's espionage methods are well known by those who wish to be informed. The tactics offer first friendship and praise, then financial help to uninformed people like Trump who have run out of financial options. Money laundering and money floundering make perfect bedfellows in Vladimir's playbook as he celebrates his control over the president of the United States.
Unfortunately for Americans we must suffer the consequences. Reality will eventually trump alternative facts and outright lies as time vaporizes falsehoods, hopefully before it is too late. Meanwhile, the GOP scrambles to develop a coherent message, Mueller continues to document Trump's sullied trail and the rest of us prepare for a fight to save our democracy.
