The Thrissur Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court sentenced a man, who raped, assaulted, and threatened his 13-year-old stepdaughter to ten years of rigorous imprisonment.
The First Additional Sessions POCSO Court Judge Mohammed Vazim also slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on him. The court also ordered to give the girl an amount of ₹4.5 lakh from government’s victim compensation fund. There is another case pending against the man in connection with the rape of the survivor’s 16-year-old sister. The case, registered by the Cheruthuruthy police, is pending trial.
Incident in 2014
The incident happened in 2014. The girl, who was staying in an orphanage, was raped many times after being physically assaulted and threatened by the 27-year-old stepfather, when she came home during Onam holidays. The court observed that the man, who raped both his stepdaughters, did not deserve any relaxation in the punishment.
Scientific examination revealed that the girl was brutally raped many times. In all, 19 witnesses were produced in the case that was registered by the Cheruthuruthy police. POCSO special prosecutor Pious Mathew appeared for the prosecution.
