THANE : The young girl reportedly involved in a
suicide pact with her 20-year-old lover had reportedly chickened out after noticing the speeding
train coming in their way last week. She however couldn’t dodge the train in time and got dragged a few feet away before being crushed by the train engine.
The loco
pilot of the Roha Diva train, which reportedly hit the girl and her lover who was a dance teacher, gave his statement to the Thane railway
police saying he saw the couple standing in the path of his train after it crossed Niljhe station on the fateful night.
He told the police that after noticing the train hurtling down at great speed, the girl tried to jump out of its way deserting her lover in the middle of the tracks.
However, by the time the girl could move out of the train’s path, it was too late and she probably got hit by one of the engine buffers and got dragged for a few metres away from the spot whereas the boy was run over and killed. She eventually succumbed to her injuries also.
The railway police say the crucial statement from the loco pilot helped solve the suspicion whether the couple had entered into a suicide bid or were knocked down in separate cases. “The statement of the loco pilot was vital and we recorded it late on Wednesday. He has told us the duo was standing together on the tracks and the girl tried to escape after seeing the train. However, he might have thought the girl had escaped which is why he did not alert the officials about her,” informed Uttam Sonawane, senior police inspector.
The bodies of a 20-year-old young dance teacher and his teenaged lover were found on the railway tracks between Diva and Niljhe station at the same spot last week within an interval of six hours.
