Coimbatore Corporation budget highlights

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore Corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan on Friday presented the civic body’s budget for the year 2018-19. Here are the highlights of the budget.
- The corporation will repair roads (69.14km), which were damaged due to underground sewage and water supply works, at a cost of Rs 40 crore with financial assistance from the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Project.

- A subway will be constructed under the Thadagam Road near Avila Convent School at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore.

- The corporation will set up a refuse derived fuel (RDF) production plant and machineries at an estimated cost of Rs 13.35 crore.

- Rs 5.05 crore will be spent on improving eight parks in the city.

- Digital display boards to disseminate information received from air quality monitors will be set up in 30 locations. The concessionaire has to pay Rs 18 lakh per annum to the corporation for installing and maintaining them.

- Bull dozers, unmanned aerial vehicles and fire tenders will be purchased at a cost of Rs 3.70 crore.


- CCTVs will be installed in urban primary health centres at a cost of Rs20 lakh.


- A scheme road near Selvapuram Housing unit via Selvachinthamani tank will be constructed. For land acquisition and formation of the road, Rs 20 crore has been allotted.


- Rs 20 lakh has been allotted to impart robotics training on corporation higher secondary school students.
