happening now. the new spending bill that funds the government through september is in the senate for a vote. it includes monies for the border wall, fencing and other improvements. but no construction will happen at the santa ana wildlife refuge. right now lawmakers are trying to decide how our money will be used this year. it's a lot of money too - - the bill is more than 2 thousand pages long. so what does this mean for the refuge? channel 5's trason bragg breaks it down. oscar kristine... of the more than 1- point-5 billion dollars approved for border security -- the bill passed by the house says -- no funds will be used for construction of the border wall in the santa ana national wildlife refuge. a contrast of what other government officials have said. in december the rio grande valley border patrol chief manuel padilla said if funding was approved for the border wall - - construction would start at santa ana. the wildlife refuge sits along the river, covering more than 2000 acres. a portion of that billion dollar funding will go towards border wall construction and improvement in the valley. the bill shows 445 million will go towards construction of twenty five miles of primary pedestrian levee fencing. 196 million will go towards primary pedestrian fencing. another 445 million was approved to replace existing fencing. the house approved another 38 million for border barrier planning and design. and lastly -- 196 million was approved for border security technology. again the house wants none of those fund to be used to build any wall or barrier on the wildlife refuge. the senate still needs to pass the spending bill. senators have until friday at midnight -- 11 p-m our time to approve the bill or face another government shutdown. we'll let you know what happens. in the studio, trason bragg, channel news at
