'Playboy rapist' Simon Monteiro's parole revoked after breach

Convicted rapist Simon Monteiro is back in prison after he breached his parole conditions less than two months after his release.

The "playboy rapist" of Sydney's eastern suburbs was returned to custody on Thursday afternoon after failing to comply with his strict parole conditions, which include electronic monitoring, drug and alcohol testing and psychological counselling.

In a statement the State Parole Authority said while he failed to comply with his conditions "he did not commit an offence."

The conditions, which were set in February this year, required Monteiro to live at an approved address and not visit the local council areas of Randwick City, Waverley and Woollahra.

The former model and aspiring actor, who changed his name from Simon Lowe, served almost nine years of an 11-year sentence for the rape and assault of a girlfriend in Bellevue Hill in 2009.

He was released from custody on February 4.

More than 30,000 Australians last year signed a petition urging for Monterio to be kept behind bars and called the parole system to be reformed "to ensure that offenders who are not truly reformed and continue to pose a risk to the community are not released, even if their sentence is up".

The parole authority made the decision to revoke Monteiro's parole at a private hearing on Thursday, in consultation with Corrective Services NSW’s community corrections staff.

A review hearing date will be set next week.

Monteiro was convicted in December 2008 and sentenced in 2009 for a maximum of 12 years and three months for aggravated sexual intercourse without consent.
