The management of the Roots Group of Companies and its employees contributed their might to restore the Noyyal River.
K. Ramasamy, Chairman of the Roots Group of Companies, handed over a cheque of ₹ 30 lakh, including the employees contribution of ₹ 5 lakh to Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, to desilt Kumaran Kuttai near Madhampatti in the first phase on Wednesday.
Mr. Ramasamy said that if everyone donates ₹ 200 per year, drinking water problem of entire city could be solved.
Speaking on the occasion Ms. Vanitha Mohan said that Kumaran Kuttai is five km radius and the water from the adjoining hills – 2.5 km from the pond – gets collected in the pond. “We have built seven check dams in this area and have deepened the pond up to four metres. In future, we will be able to store 35 lakh cubic feet of water in the pond and if the pond reaches its full reservoir level, then the water will be sufficient to meet the drinking needs of the public for two years.”
The Siruthuli has also proposed to plant 2000 saplings around this pond with the help of locals.
The Farmers’ Association of Madhampatti, Roots Group of Companies, Rotary Clubs have extended their support to the project.
