
At least two persons were feared dead after a gunman, who claimed allegiance to terror group Islamic State, fired shots in a hostage-taking at a supermarket in southwest France today.
Jean-Valery Lettermann, the regional police chief said that the attack took place at a Super U store in Trebes, near Carcassonne.
"At least two dead in French supermarket hostage-taking," AFP quoted security source as saying.
According to media reports, the armed man also opened fire at police officials, injuring one of them.
Security personnel have surrounded the supermarket and an operation is underway to end the crisis, reports added.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry said that main priority is the police and emergency services' intervention, adding that a security perimeter was established in the area.
