District administration has launched cleanliness drive in view of Ramnavmi procession on March 26. Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Jusco, which looks after utilities in Tata Steel command areas, are involved in cleaning the ghats for the occasion.

Dhalbhum SDO Madhvi Mishra, said that administration has asked both JNAC and Jusco to prepare the ghats well in time for the chaiti chhath and Ramnavami immersion ceremonies.

“In view of the festivities the ghats are being cleaned. Like earlier years, both the civic bodies know their command areas and have been asked to prepare the ghats. We will conducting a final inspection of the major ghats tomorrow morning. Barricades and leveling of approach roads to the major ghat is already over and lights installation are under process on a war footing,’ said Madhvi Mishra.

Sources informed that admin ordered JUSCO to carry cleanliness drive at different ghats.  Admin had called the corporates like Jusco, Tata Motors and Tata Steel to provide manual and machinery assistance to the administrative officials in carrying out the exercise before the festival. "We have asked all the socially responsible corporate institutions to extend their cooperation in carrying out the drive," said SDO, Dhalbhum.

Particularly, Jusco has been asked to provide electricity and make lighting arrangement in the low laying areas of the city, or for that matter, at the approaching paths to the two rivers.

The most important task before the administration is to barricade the danger zone and stop the devotees and revellers from breaching into that area. In the light of past incidents of drowning the administration has got serious with this issue and has taken firm measures in this regard particularly, in Mango, Sonari and Kadma where the possibility of accidents are high.

Some of the major river ghats include, Bhuiyandih ghat (Sitaramdera) , Bodhanwala ghat (Bistupur), Baridih ghat (Baridih), Subernarekha ghat (Sakchi), Kapali Ghat (Sonari), Domuhani ghat (Sonari), Sati Ghat (Kadma),  and Baroda ghat (Bagbera).

Around a lakh devotees would be offering evening arghya tomorrow and morning arghya on March 24 as part of chaiti chhath while the Ramnavami immersion would take place at the ghats on March 26.

Meanwhile officials of Chhath Ghat Committee said  said that people take bath in water tanks and rivers and therefore it is essential that the cleaning work of these water bodies is completed on time. “This year the situation is just opposite so we are making adequate arrangements to make the festival an incident free celebration,” said a district administration official.

Administration will be deploying trained swimmers and lifeguards along with paddle boats at different points on Subernarekha and Kharkhai river during chhath festivity.  Danger spots would be demarcated and all ghats would be barricaded.
