Martyrs have not got due respect in history books: Union Minister

The freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country have not got their due respect and honour in history books taught in schools and colleges, feels of State for HRD Singh.

"After the country's independence, martyrs have not got appropriate honour and respect in history books taught in schools and colleges," Singh tweeted in Hindi.

He further tweeted, " Veeran hain kabren unkin jinke lahu se jalte the chirage vatan, jagmagate hain makbare unke jo bechte the shahidon ke kafan (Lonely are graves of those whose blood used to light lamps in the country, while mausoleum of those are lightened up who use to sell shrouds of martyrs."

Singh made the comments on the martyrdom day of the great freedom fighter

"My heartfelt tributes to Shaheed S Bhagat Singh, Rajguru n Sukhdev who sacrificed their lives for Bharat Mata. Today is their martyrday (23 March, 1931.)," he tweeted.

However, this is not the first time that the has questioned contents of the present curriculum in the country.

The had recently recommended to Central Advisory Body of (CABE) that there are certain mantras which codified 'laws of motion' much before it was discovered by Newton.

"Hence it is essential that traditional knowledge must be incorporated in our curriculum and Vaastu compliance of educational buildings is important for learning," he had said.

He had also stoked a controversy when he had claimed that Darwin's theory of evolution was incorrect and should not be taught in schools and colleges.
