JAKARTA – Nearly 30 people were admitted to a hospital after an Indonesian volcano emitted thick clouds of sulphuric gas yesterday. This led to the shutting down of famous tourist and mining spots.

At Least 200 people residing on the slopes of Mount Ijen in East Java province were being told to leave the area.

“Because of this incident, the public – tourists or miners – are not allowed near the crater until further notice,” affirmed Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, representative for the national disaster mitigation agency.

As per the reports, several natives had witnessed vomiting and breathing issues due to the thick clouds of sulphuric gas.

East Java province is a famous place for tourists and miners as they extract solid yellow sulfur to put up for sale. People here use sulphur in all things be it cosmetics, matchsticks.

As per officials, “Around five million of Indonesia’s 250 million people live and work near volcanoes largely because of the fertile farming soil.”
