Goa Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai today announced a scheme to provide financial help to people taking up community farming.
Sardesai, speaking at the Goa Krishi Mahotsav in Margao, said that the state government would promote contract and community farming.
He told the gathering that the government had planned to pass a law on contract farming in the Budget session but could not do so due to the session being a curtailed one because of the ill health of chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
Sardesai said community farming would be allowed in the state from today and the government would take care of 90 per cent of the expenditure incurred on it.
"The agriculture department will provide financial help for activities like fencing the plot as well as digging wells. Those indulging in organic farming would get more benefits," he informed.
