Man held for creating fake FB profile of schoolmate

SURAT: Crime branch sleuths arrested a 25-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly creating a fake Facebook profile of a woman as she did not accept his friendship request six months ago. The offence was registered at Rander police station on February 11 and during investigation role of the accused was revealed.
Ghanshyam alias Parth Chotaliya, a resident of Rander, was arrested from his residence in Ram Nagar by team lead by police sub-inspector in technical cell K M Bhuva. Investigation revealed that the accused had created fake Facebook profile of some other women too. Chotaliya, who does tile fitting work, was handed over to Rander police for further investigation.

According to the police, Chotaliya had created his Facebook account few months ago and sent friend request to some of his schoolfriends. He had done schooling from Jamnagar upto class VIII and then discontinued studies. He later migrated to Surat in search of work.


Meanwhile, to stay in contact with schoolfriends and those from his village, he started sending friend requests. A women studying with him did not accept his request, so Chotaliya felt offended, the police said.


Chotaliya, who is married, created fake profile of the woman by copying her picture from her original Facebook page. He then sent friend request to other women and men and shared objectionable material on the fake profile page. He used a smart phone to develop the fake Facebook profile pages.


“We are investigating who else have become victim of this,” assistant commissioner of police, DCB, R R Sarvaiya said.
