NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India on Friday condemned Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government’s proposal to withdraw cases against riot-accused persons in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts of the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India said the move by Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government to withdraw 131 cases related to the 2013 communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli “involve 13 found to be allegedly involved in murder, and 11 persons, in attempt to murder”. The statement said, “More than 60 minorities were killed and about 40,000 people were displaced. The culprits of such heinous crimes cannot go unpunished. It seems Yogi government wants these criminals to be out and punish people who decided to vote against his party. This has been the BJP’s strategy whenever it failed to win over the voters.”

CPI also said Modi government should desist from allowing this and appealed to all secular democratic left parties and forces to unite against such nefarious moves.
