Jipmer launches TV studio, internet radio; plans facilities in Karaikal too

‘First of its kind initiative by a medical institution will help both staff and the public’

Jipmer on Thursday launched a suite of services, including internet radio and a TV studio, on its campus.

Launching the facilities, Dr. S. C. Parija, Jipmer director, said the Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Ltd (BECIL) under the I&B Ministry, which helped set up the radio on the main campus, will also ring in a Community Radio Station (CRS) on Karaikal campus.

The digital signages will disseminate information to patients, public, staff and faculty regarding services of Jipmer, hospital information and common diseases.

BECIL director Col. D.R. Gogoi said through internet radio, Jipmer would become a global medical institute. Jipmer Radio App can be downloaded and various health-related programmes can be listened to.

Recorded contents can also be downloaded later in case the programme is missed by the public, he added.

Historic moment

Dr. Ravi Kumar Chittoria, chairman of Jipmer community radio committee, termed it a historic moment and a first for a medical institution to have these facilities.

Member Secretary of the community radio Dr. Mahalaksmi informed that the various content programmes for digital signages and internet radio would be recorded in TV Studio developed in Jipmer Academic Centre (JAC).

Medical superintendent Dr. Ashok Sankar Badhe said various operative procedures and programmes could be recorded and displayed on signages and broadcast through internet radio.

He said that 100 signages were being installed in various buildings of the institute.
