Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged youths to make sports a way of life and aspire to achieve excellence in the field.
'"Sports is an universal unifying factor through which qualities such as honesty and dedication can be imbibed and all youths should aim to make it a way of life," the Chief Minister said while speaking at the inaugural function of the Pub Kamrup College's indoor stadium in Kamrup district.
Confusion over sports hampering academic activities in students' life must not be created and students must be encouraged to take part in sports and cultural activities so that they can bring laurels to the state and the country in different fields, he said.
Budget provisions have been made this year for setting up a sports university in the state and for organizing panchayat-level football tournaments across the state,
He also urged youths to take advantage of the state government's initiatives to build a skilled workforce as it has established 249 skill development centres in the state and opened the North East Skill Centre at Mangaldoi in cooperation with Singapore government.
A study center of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University was also inaugurated today at the college.
