During most hours of the day, they find it difficult to cross that section of Mount-Poonamallee Main Road

If a vote were to be taken on which section of the Mount-Poonamallee Main Road teems with pedestrians the most, it would be the one in front of DLF IT Park.

Software professionals from this IT park constitute most of the pedestrian population on this section.

DLF IT Park has 150 companies, which together account for 8,000 employees.

As these IT professionals work on shifts round-the-clock, there will be a group of pedestrians entering and leaving the IT Park at all hours.

The problem is: Pedestrians here however feel they are out on a limb, especially during rush hour.

Except for a pedestrian crossing, there is no special provision to help pedestrians cross this section.

Private security personnel of the IT park regulate the traffic during rush hour. At other hours, pedestrians are on their own.

A tall order, as motorists often don’t stop for them.

Moreover, even during rush hour, the private security personnel will be keen only on helping employees at the IT park.

As a positive sign, currently, a few traffic police personnel regulate traffic the spot during the rush hour. But more help is needed. “A foot overbridge near the IT Park may help the pedestrians,” says K. Priya, a software professional.

“Widening of the stretch at DLF involves land acquisition. Therefore, a footover bridge can be considered as an alternative,” says an official of State Highways Department.
