LUCKNOW: Taking note of rising tobacco menace and the danger it poses to public health, LMC has decided to take a strict call on the sale of tobacco and tobacco products in the state capital.

The municipal commissioner has passed an order to allow only those vendors to sell tobacco, cigarettes and tobacco products who take a licence for the same from LMC. Lucknow will hence become the first city in India which will make it mandatory for shopkeepers to take a licence for selling tobacco products.

LMC will also fix the number of such shops and vendors in every ward.
