Hulk Hogan Returning to WWE? Discussions Confirmed
Hulk Hogan is one of the most recognizable figures in WWE history, but left the company in 2015. Now, it seems the groundwork is being laid to bring Hogan back into the WWE fold.
According to PWInsider, conversations between Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) and the WWE about his possible return to the company have been ongoing for several weeks. The capacity in which Hogan could rejoin the WWE remains unclear, but PWInsider theorizes he could become an ambassador for the company, making periodic appearances at shows like he did before he was fired.
The WWE responded to PWInsider’s inquiries with the following statement.
“We have had discussions with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan) about how he can help others learn from his mistakes, however, he is not under any contract with WWE."
Hogan was let go from the WWE in July 2015 after a tape of the former Superstar using racially insensitive language was leaked. The tape, recorded in 2006, was first published by The National Enquirer and included an angry rant from Hogan about his daughter Brooke’s then-boyfriend, who was African-American. The tape was secretly filmed by Hogan’s former friend, radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge, whose then-wife Hogan was sleeping with. The sextape would be published online by Gawker making the incident a national story.
Hogan asked the site to take the video down and when his request was denied, sued Gawker. The racially insensitive rant would be leaked in the middle of Hogan’s civil suit against the site, coming at a time where the transcript of the tape was sealed from the public. Hogan sued the outlet a second time after his firing from the company, alleging the outlet was trying to ruin his wrestling career. In 2016, a judge awarded Hogan an amount of $115 million against Gawker. The judgment bankrupted the outlet, which would later come to a settlement of $31 million with Hogan.
