The State is on course to fully convert its transport system to clean and green fuel, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday on the sidelines of an event at the Vidhan Bhavan.
Mr. Fadnavis said nearly 35% of carbon emission in the State is due to moving vehicles. But this is being tackled with the help of extending the green cover, he said. “We are working to switch transportation systems to clean and green fuel mode. Today, I am happy to share that we have increased the forest cover, mangroves cover, water storages in forest in just two years,” he added.
Mr. Fadnavis made the comments during a seminar on “Challenges of climate change and remedies to avoid its dangers”, organised by the Maharashtra Legislative Secretariat, GoM and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to mark World Forest Day. Mr. Fadnavis also pointed out the impact of climate change on the State’s agriculture problems. “We need to take immediate actions to avoid further complications; conservation with an approach of sustainability is a must to tackle sudden climate changes,” he said. The event also saw the release of several books on climate change.
