YouTube to put more ads in music content to 'frustrate' users and make them switch to its paid streaming service

Quite a lot of people listen to music on YouTube and many times make it their primary source for music content as well. This in turn adversely affects artists as the listener does not have any incentive to buy their music.

Well, it seems that YouTube is planning to do something about it.

YouTube's music head Lyor Cohen told Bloomberg that the video streaming service will take measures to force users to switch to one of its paid music streaming services.

How will they do this? Well, it would seem that the number of ads while streaming music is about to increase which should 'frustrate' the user to opt for the paid music service.

Though YouTube has been in the paid music streaming service for some time now, it has failed to garner as many subscribers as seen on Spotify or Apple Music. This new strategy might be a stepping stone in the direction to increase its subscriber base, however, there is no guarantee that this method will work.

However, if you are simply a video content consumer of YouTube, you have nothing to worry about as these excess ads are only going to be shown to users who are using YouTube solely as a music source.

One could also argue that many people might also prefer the extra ads on YouTube rather than pay for music. Even if they do opt for the paid service, Apple and Spotify are miles ahead in subscriber count and it would take a lot of time to reach their level.

The reason for such s huge lead is due to Spotify and Apple Music's ubiquity and interoperability amongst various platforms, something which the YouTube streaming service is lacking as per the report.
