Toronto Mayor John Tory was in Guelph Thursday morning to talk about economic opportunities across the Toronto-Waterloo  innovation corridor.

Tory was a keynote speaker at the 2018 Regional Economic Summit, which is hosted annually by the Guelph Chamber of Commerce.

"Our innovation corridor is home to a diverse, highly educated population and game changing ideas," said Tory in a release when he announced he'd be a speaker.

Tory spoke about the importance of collaboration between the Toronto-Waterloo corridor cities, including Guelph.

"The notion that you can live in your own little world and say, 'We're just going to be here as Guelph or we're just going to be here as Toronto and we are not going to cooperate with one another' I think those days have pretty much come to an end," he said.

However, Tory adds better transit is needed for the cities to work together more efficiently.

Heading into the provincial election in June, Tory told CBC News leaders of all parties have taken notice of the Toronto-Waterloo corridor.
