The Delhi Police Special Cell on Wednesday arrested a 53-year-old notorious gangster who had been evading arrest by the Delhi as well the Uttar Pradesh police for 13 years. Wanted in several cases of murder and supply of illegal arms, the gangster, Hariom Jat was nabbed by the sleuths of the Special Cell from the Anand Vihar area on Tuesday night after a brief encounter by the Delhi Police.
Hariom Jat is the son of a Delhi Police officer who took to committing murders to spread terror in the area. P S Kushwah, DCP, Special Cell said, "On March 20, at around 9:15pm, we received a tip off that Hariom will be coming on the Chaudhary Charan Singh marg, towards Seemapuri, Anand Vihar.
The team managed to overpower him even though he opened fire at the team. One foreign made pistol made in USA of 7.65 bore alongwith 3 live cartridges has been recovered from his possession. Despite being sent behind bars in 2005, Hariom continued his nefarious activities. Police said that His rivalry with Pappu Jat continued even though he was busy in his publishing work to give a cover to his criminal activities as his mail rival Pappu Jat was in jail. In 2009 Pappu Jat came out on bail and Hariom Jat become more cautious and active. He was arrested at PS Anad Vihar in 2006 while in possession with pistol.
In 2016, Hariom had attacked Vinod Gupta under the jurisdiction of the Kamla Market police station after which police had kept a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest. Since Vinod had killed Hariom's brother, Narender Pal, Hariom had decided to take revenge.
Son of a Delhi Police personnel, Harimom's father took voluntary retirement and started his publication business. He used to publish crime stories of the courts in the books "Surender Kahaniyan and Ajgar Bhoomi".
A class 12 dropout, it was in 1982 that Hariom got into a rivalry with his neighbour Satpal a;lias Pappu Jat. This escalated when Pappu Jat alongwith Birender, Jitender, Raju, Sanjay and Brijpal murdered Hariom's brother Surender Pal in 1993. This continued when the rival gang members killed Hariom's second brother Narender Pal in 2003, Kushwah said.
