Five-day screening test to commence on April 9

State Human Resources Department has announced the first of its kind screening test for selection of candidates to fill 1,109 posts of assistant professors in 14 State universities. As many as 76,365 applications have been received in response to the recruitment notification issued by the universities.

The online screening test, to be conducted by the AP Public Service Commission, is a part of the first-ever consistent recruitment of teaching staff in last 38 years.

At a press conference here, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the recruitment of assistant professors would be made in two phases as per the APPSC schedule.

“The commission will conduct screening test for five days starting with the Paper 1, that is common to all candidates of the Teaching and Research Aptitude test, on April 9. Later, Paper II on respective subject tests will be conducted from April 10 to April 13 at 11 examination centres across the State,” Mr. Rao said.

Recruitment process

Both papers would carry 300 marks, including 120 for Paper I and 180 for Paper II and negative marking would be applicable for wrong answers. The minimum qualifying marks for OC candidates was 40%, BC candidates (35 %) and SC, ST and Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates (30%).

Mr. Rao said that qualifying the screening test was a basic criteria set to ensure that candidates have basic qualifications before taking next phase of oral interviews conducted by respective university committees. He said the autonomy of the universities would not be impacted by this test as speculated.

The executive councils of the universities resolved to conduct the online screening test and an APSCHE committee of three vice-chancellors has recommended syllabus for it, he said.

Vacant posts

In all, there are 1,711 vacant posts of assistant professors, associate professors and professors in the State universities and the department decided to fill in 1,385 posts. While the posts of assistant professors would be filled through screening test, other posts would be recruited by the universities following regular model.
