Facebook Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday that the social media company made mistakes that allowed data about users to end up with the analytics firm Cambridge Analytica and said the company would make changes.
Mr. Zuckerberg, in his first comments since the company disclosed on Friday the misuse of personal data, said in a post on Facebook that the company “made mistakes, there's more to do, and we need to step up and do it.”
Mr.Zuckerberg broke more than four days of silence as he posted an update about the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Mr. Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday which said: Facebook has a “responsibility” to protect its users’ data, and “if we can’t then we don’t deserve to serve you.”
Mr. Zuckerberg and Facebook’s No. 2 executive, Sheryl Sandberg, have been quiet since news broke Friday that Cambridge may have used data improperly obtained from roughly 50 million Facebook.
