2018 Kia K900 Gains More Gear, But At A Price Hike Of Up To $5,000 Just Before It’s Replaced

The all-new Kia K9 was unveiled in South Korea, and will be brought to the 2018 New York Auto Show next week, as the K900.

However, the automaker isn’t ready to pull the plug on the current generation just yet, and as a result, they’re updating it for the 2018MY, CarsDirect reports, quoting official order guides.

Don’t expect any major changes, though, as the 2018 Kia K900 will only get more equipment, but strangely enough for a car that will soon be replaced, at a price.

For example, the K900 V6 Premium entry-level will be $1,000 more expensive, at $51,850, as it now gains the shift-by-wire gear selector from the V6 luxury model as standard.

At the same time, the mid-level V6 Luxury will get the standard VIP package, which adds head-up display, 360-degree monitor, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. Power soft-close doors, power reclining rear seats with ventilation, 16-way power driver’s seat with extendable cushion and power-adjustable headrests are offered too.

Kia won’t lose any money with this move, as the 2018 K900 V6 Luxury costs $5,000 more than the 2017MY, at $60,850. That’s exactly the cost of the VIP package, when it was still an optional extra.

The top-of-the-line 2018 Kia K900 V8 Luxury, on the other hand, remains untouched. This means that it still starts at $62,850 and can be ordered with the VIP Package, which is a $6,000 option.

No changes have been made in the engine lineup either, where the V6 continues to make 311hp and the V8 has 420hp.

i know that this model is a bust. i’m curious how the next gen k900 will carry on.

If I was in the market for this, why wouldn’t I wait couple of months to buy the new one? I see this as an unnecessary move and won’t boost any sale numbers, it’s a great car, fine, but it will still not sell well, although deep down I want it to make a success.

      My thoughts exactly.

Maybe they’re just consolidating the lineup to reduce costs. Their sales data probably showed a large percentage of the V6 Luxury trim buyers opted for the VIP Package anyway. But I agree, it won’t boost sales and I’d wait and get the better model if all other factors support it (price, features, immediate need).

    I have a 2015 K900 loaded V8 luxury! I love it. Don’t understand why they aren’t selling.

      Because of the Kia badge.

Bad time to be pushing a luxury sedan, and even worse time if said sedan is sporting a mainstream badge. In short, it’s not the car, it’s the market. But Kia needs to know and understand the market, and I think they’re a little out of their element here. Had they built a large-ish 2-row CUV on the same platform, I promise you the numbers would be much, much better.

    Too bizarre for words.
