The introduction of ID badges, clear backpacks and possibly metal detectors in the Florida school where 17 people were killed last month highlights the increasingly desperate measures being enforced to protect students in the absence of congressional action on gun control. 

As the back-and-forth continues between gun control advocates and the National Rifle Association (NRA), America’s most powerful gun lobbyists, parents and students affected by the Valentine's Day shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been vocal in demanding action to make schools safer.
