Key accused acquitted in 22-year-old coal trader murder case

A here today acquitted key accused in the 22-year-old murder case of

pronounced the judgement through video conference, acquitting Ramadhir Singh, former of Balia District Board of Uttar Pradesh, for lack of evidence.

He had been charged under various IPC sections including 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), and the Arms Act.

Ramadhir Singh, husband of former Indu Singh, is in lodged in a Hazaribagh jail, but will not be set free as he is serving a sentence in another case.

Sanjay Singh, a coal trader, was shot dead on May 26, 1996, at the Lubi Circular Road here.

Besides Ramadhir Singh, two other people were named as accused in the case but they were acquitted on November 27 last year.

The prosecution would appeal against the judgement in a higher court, T N told reporters.
