Terry Haverly, 81, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at United Methodist Church, Anamosa. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. The Rev. Marty Schumacher will officiate at the services. Military honors will be accorded at the church by the U.S. Army and the Anamosa veterans. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oldorf Hospice House, Anamosa Methodist Church or Jones Regional Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; four children, Tami Haverly, the Dominican Republic, Kipp (Kim) Haverly, Martelle, and Kyle (Carla) Haverly and Kory (Jenny) Haverly of Anamosa; and six grandchildren, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Kenyon, Kole, Keaton and Kylee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Terry James Haverly was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was the son of James R. and Ina Bright Haverly. Terry graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. Terry Haverly and Joan Sienknecht were married June 11, 1960, at Lincoln, Iowa. They resided in Anamosa, and Terry was employed at the University of Iowa in telecommunications services. He retired from the university in 1998. In his retirement, he did phone repair and installed phone systems. He and Joan spent many winters in south Texas, where he enjoyed fishing.
Terry was an avid sports fan, never missing a Hawkeye, Cyclone, Chiefs or Royals game. He was an outstanding athlete in high school. He was a member of Anamosa Methodist Church, AMVETS and Wapsi Country Club.
