Woman dies of KFD in Shivamogga

Saakamma, a woman from Bandya-Kukke village in Tirthahalli taluk who tested positive for Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever died on Monday taking the death toll from this tick-borne viral infection in the district in past five months to two.

It may be mentioned here that, Saakamma, 40, tested positive for KFD on March 11 and was admitted to a hospital in Manipal on March 12.

On Monday, her health became critical in the hospital and she succumbed. As many as 13 positive cases of KFD have been reported in the district in five months — 10 from Tirthahalli taluk, two from Sagar taluk and one from Sorab taluk.
