VW Design Boss Says The Touareg’s Interior Is A “Total Revolution”

The teaser campaign for the 2019 Volkswagen Touareg continues as the automaker has released a new promotional video that features the company’s head of design.

In the clip, Klaus Bischoff says the third-generation model will have a “strong personality in its facial expression” as it has LED Matrix headlights and LED signature lighting units. Moving further back, onlookers will see a “slim, muscular, athletic” shape and “huge” wheels. Bischoff went on to say the Touareg is more elegant and innovative than before and will have a “beautiful” rear end which is “very sculpted.”

Volkswagen hasn’t released many interior photos but Bischoff described the cabin as a “total revolution” as it will feature 12- and 15-inch displays which are integrated into the instrument panel and appear to be one massive unit that measures 23 inches wide. Bischoff went on to say the screens will be customizable so drivers can configure them to suit their tastes. Besides the dual displays, the Touareg with have real wood trim and aluminum accents.

The Touareg will be unveiled tomorrow and it is slated to be offered with an assortment of 3.0-liter V6 engines. The petrol unit is slated to produce 335 hp (250 kW), while the diesel should have outputs of 228 hp (170 kW) and 282 hp (210 kW). Later on, we can expect a plug-in hybrid variant as well as a V8 diesel option.

Regardless of what’s under the hood, the Touareg will be offered with a new rear axle steering system. It promises to provide greater agility and directional stability at higher speeds, while also reducing the turning radius from 12.20 meters (40.02 feet) to 11.13 meters (36.51 feet).

To bad it not coming to the U.S.

Yeah, with all the talk about bulking up the crossover lineup in the U.S., you’d think that it would be a no-brainer to bring it here even if it sold in small numbers as a halo vehicle.

that’s what the Q7 is for

        • Some people prefer to fly under the radar and prefer a VW label over an Audi one…

Then I guess all of y’all should’ve bought the second gen if you think it’s so great, since high price and low sales is a big part of why VW decided against the U.S. getting the third gen.

          • No promotion and no deals…actually it sold quite well in the US until the last 12 months when VW gave up on selling it here because they wanted to give us the cheap Atlas…

The precise reason I chose the Touareg. Of course, that was before I knew how morally corrupt VAG is. Too bad they had to drag Porsche into their wicked little empire.
