VMI football coach Scott Wachenheim announced the hiring of former Virginia running back Albert Reid as running backs coach Thursday.
Reid spent last season as a graduate assistant at UVa. He played running back for both Maryland and UVa, rushing for a total of 1,287 yards in his college career. He ran for six touchdowns for the Cavaliers in 2016.
VMI also announced the hiring of Seth Payne as defensive line coach and Tarron Williams as cornerbacks coach.
Payne spent the past three seasons as the assistant defensive line coach at Wake Forest. Williams spent the past two seasons as a defensive quality control coach at James Madison.
VMI also officially announced the previously reported hirings of Brian Sheppard and Jeff Sejour. Sheppard, who was Northern Arizona’s offensive coordinator last season, will be VMI’s offensive coordinator. Sejour, who was on the Howard staff last season, will coach the outside linebackers. Mike Saint-Germain is switching from outside linebackers coach to inside linebackers coach for VMI.

Ferrum sweeps Greensboro
FERRUM — Bailey Oakes’ walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning completed a sweep for the Panthers (15-7, 6-4 USA South) over the Pride (13-17, 3-7) by the scores of 5-3 and 4-2.
Starter Jasmine Agee pitched six innings in the opener with four hits, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Ashton Lambeth picked up her second save, pitching the seventh inning and allowing no hits, runs or walks.
Lambeth then came on to pitch the final three innings of the nightcap for the Panthers and allowed one hit, one run and no walks with a strikeout. Cheyenne Strickland (Carroll County) went 4 for 7 in the two games with two RBIs for Ferrum.
