Following recommendation of the Medical Board constituted to look into the health status of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad, currently admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Saturday, RIMS Director Dr RK Shrivastava has written to the jail authorities that though Prasad had recovered from the surgical part, other parameters were found to be abnormal and thus he may be shifted to some higher medical center like All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

“A meeting with Medical Board was conducted today also during which it was said that though there was no problem in the surgical part, Prasad may be shifted to some other higher centers like AIIMS as other parameters of his body are not normal and such complications must be cured on time,” said RIMS Director Dr RK Srivastava. Prasad will be under the observation of Dr Umesh Prasad till any decision was taken by the Birsa Munda Central Jail Authorities, he added.

“Renal complication cannot be ruled out for Prasad increased level of Serum Creatinine, HBA1C and Urea were recorded during the tests and hence he needs to be kept in close observation of Endocrinologists, Nephrologists and Dialectologists, which are not available there in RIMS,” said Srivastava. Since Prasad has been suffering from long standing diabetes and hence complications are bound to crop up for which he must be shifted to some higher medical centre like AIIMS, he added.

RIMS Director said that the Jail Superintendent had been informed in this regard on Wednesday and the final decision was to be taken by them.

RJD Chief Lalu Prasad was admitted to RIMS after he made complaints of intense pain due to perianal abscess developed in his body on Saturday from BMCJ, where he has been lodged since December 23 after being convicted by a Special CBI Court of Shivpal Singh in a fodder scam case RC64A/96, related to Deoghar Treasury.

Incidentally, Special CBI Court of Shivpal Singh is likely to pronounce quantum of punishment against Prasad on March 23 after he was held guilty in fourth fodder scam case RC38A/96 against him in which the decision was deferred twice due to various reasons.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, the CBI Court heard the arguments on the point of quantum of punishment by six of the convicted persons — Arun Singh, Ajit Kumar, Gopinath Das, Vimal Kumar Das, KK Prasad, Manoranjan Prasad.
