Bhubaneswar: More than 90% of the city has come under the
Adaptive Traffic Signal Control (ATSC) solution, popularly known as intelligent traffic system. The system was first implemented on a pilot basis at five intersections on the busy
Sachivalaya Marg in June last year. But now 50 more intersections are being manned by the
ATSC system. The city has a total of 60 intersections.
The system would help improve travel time reliability by progressively moving vehicles through intersections. It will reduce congestion by creating smooth flow of vehicles across intersections. This system would not only collect real time traffic data but also optimize the signal phases to reduce delays. "Instead of a fixed waiting time, this traffic system will predict traffic volumes and adjust signal timings to match the volume," a senior officer of the
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (
BMC) said.
"To integrate the 50 traffic signals, a temporary traffic control room has been opened in the office of
Bbubaneswar Smart City Limited," mayor A N Jena said.
