KANPUR:In a shocking incident, a young couple set themselves ablaze as their families objected to their alleged relationship, in Fatehpur district, on Thursday.
The couple locked themselves in a room during the wee hours of Thursday and set themselves on fire. Their badly charred bodies were later found lying on the bed, said the police.

According to reports, the boy, Mayank Singh (22) of Bamrauhli village under the limits of Dhata police station, developed an `affair' with the girl, Nanhki Devi (18), who lived in the neighbourhood. However, as per the village sources, their families objected their relationship.

The couple’s death came as a shock to their families.

The family members of Mayank said they didn’t have an inkling of the incident. "Nanhki Devi's mother had expired about an year ago, her father is an employee at a brick kiln unit, and at the time of incident, she was alone in the house."

"We came across the smell of charred flesh emanating from the house of Nanhki when we woke up in the morning. We immediately rushed to the spot and alerted Police Control room and Fire department, before launching a rescue operation. The police and Fire department personnel came, broke into the house and found the badly burnt bodies of couple lying on the bed," villagers informed TOI.

Though the bodies have been sent for autopsy, the police are questioning the families of the deceased couple to ascertain the cause that led to the shocking incident.

Prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide, however, we have not yet reach final conclusion and are awaiting postmortem report, the police said.
