Henry "Hank" Earl Burt

HENRY 'HANK' EARL BURT
Cedar Rapids

Henry "Hank" Earl Burt, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the funeral home.
Hank was born on June 8, 1931, in Palo, Iowa, the son of Harley Edward and Edith Mae (Packingham) Burt. He graduated from Palo High School, Palo, in 1949. In 1951, Hank entered the U.S. Army and eventually became a corporal with the 1st Cavalry Division. He served in combat during the Korean War. Upon his discharge in 1954, he returned to Cedar Rapids and went to work for Altorfer Machinery Co., where he was a diesel mechanic for 40 years. After his retirement in 1993, Hank was employed part time by Enterprise Car Rental. He was co-owner of Burdick's TV and Repair with Dick Davisson for many years.
On Sept. 3, 1954, Hank was united in marriage to the former Beverly Joyce Smith in Palo. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids, where they raised their two daughters, Debbie and Sherrie. Hank was a loving and supportive grandparent to both of his granddaughters, Kylee and Kelsey.
Hank was a member of Cedar Rapids VFW Post 788. The couple enjoyed going to the casinos, dancing at the Eagles Club and going on family vacations.
Hank was a hardworking man who always put his family first. He was proud of his family, but probably never fully realized the positive influence he had on all of them. Hank never knew a stranger; he could talk with anyone. Five months ago, his heart was broken when the love of his life, Bev, passed away. They now are lovingly reunited and dancing together once again.
Hank is survived by his daughters, Sherrie Burt (Nancy Kies) of Rockford, Iowa, and Debbie Erenberger of Walford, Iowa; two granddaughters, Kylee Kozisek of Las Vegas, Nev., and Kelsey (Austin) Ressler of Ely, Iowa; and two brothers, Melvin (Doris) Burt of Cedar Rapids and Marlin Burt of Palo.
Hank was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bev Burt; his parents, Harley and Edith Burt, and
son-in-law, Greg Erenberger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
